Road To Refuge

Taj Aldeeb is a musician and performer of Syrian heritage, based in Naarm/ Melbourne. She is currently studying Music Performance (piano) at Monash, regularly performing as a percussionist with Monash Academy Orchestra and Melbourne Youth Orchestra.

She is currently working as a presenter at ABC Classic Radio, a pre-concert speaker, and a production assistant with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

She developed skills in acting, conducting, mentorship, event management, voice-over, dancing, singing and has been engaged in various recording projects and installations in her collaboration with local and international multicultural musicians and artists such as The Boite organisation, D2Drumline marching band, and more.

Motivated by her own journey, Taj tells stories that demonstrate the challenges, triumphs, and diverse experiences of migration through audio-visual forms. In 2019 she graduated with a Bachelor of Digital Media Design from RMIT University.

Among her acting credits, the short films Nour (2019, dir. Suzy Sainovski) and The Fall (2020, dir. Mert Berdilek); a finalist for the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films category at the Sydney Film Festival, Get to the Wire (2021, dir. Paul Burns). For the stage, THEM (2022 Arts Centre Melbourne and national tour, dir. Bagryana Popov), Zaffé (2023, dir. Stéphanie Ghajar); won ‘Director’s choice’ award as part of Melbourne Fringe at Malthouse Theatre.

Taj was granted the “Young Leader Award” by the Victorian Multicultural Commission 2021 as she employs her talents as a storyteller in advocacy work for human rights, and mentoring youth groups.

Taj has a distinguished interest in doing one too many things at once!
