Born and raised in Brazil, Leila Maciel arrived in the country back in 2016 and since then has been on her journey for permanency in Australia. Along the way, she worked with a number of organisations advocating for migrant rights, including the Brazilian Community Council and Democracy in Colour. She also runs the Mirame Project, an initiative to cast light in the unseen and unheard stories of Latin America.

Holds a bachelor's degree in Communications & Media studies from the University of Wollongong, with a major in Global Media & Communications and a minor in Journalism & Professional Writing. Worked in a range of organisations developing communications strategies, marketing campaigns and producing meaningful content.
