Participant Expectations
I understand the following participant expectations for Media Spokesperson training:
Acknowledge country
We live on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land and pay respects to First Nations Elders, past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded and this is, and always will be, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land.
Stay engaged
I will show up on time for the whole time - not duck out early or arrive late.
I commit to being ‘present’ with Zoom video turned on (unless not possible due to access needs), phone turned off the whole time, not multitasking on another internet tab.
I will be joining the training with reliable tech and free of distractions: I will join from a computer screen not a phone, with a solid reliable internet connection, from a quiet place with no loud noises or other people in the room, etc. If I enjoy this training I will consider joining the Economic Media Centres’s Media Spokesperson Network.
Participate fully
I commit to engaging with participating and learning - this may mean sharing parts of my story, taking risks and staying focused despite the challenges of online learning. I commit to being open to trying new things during this training and learning from fellow participants.
Respect others and engage with difference
I will respect, recognise and value the diversity of people and cultures in my cohort and help to create an inclusive training environment where everyone feels valued and safe to express their identity.
I acknowledge that if I knowingly or unknowingly engage in racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, transphobia, homophobia, fatphobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, white supremacy, violence or bigotry during the training my actions will be addressed, and follow-up action may be required.
Where relevant I will address racial identity explicitly and intentionally and identify my racial privilege when speaking (“I’m John, and as a white male….etc”).
I will keep any personal information shared by other participants confidential unless otherwise agreed.
I will follow the training code of conduct and understand that I may be asked to leave the training if I violate these rules.
